💫 Why We’re Obsessed With Inclusion — And Why We’ll Always Design for Intergenerational Wonder

July 24, 20252 min read

“They said, ‘Don’t even try.’ We said, ‘Watch us.’”

At Evolve X, we hear it all the time:
“You can’t design an experience that works for 7-year-olds and 70-year-olds.”
“Intergenerational learning is too hard.”
“Stick to one demographic.”

But we didn’t get into this work to do what’s easy.
We do it because shared human experience matters more than boxes, binaries, and barriers.

We became obsessed with inclusion not just as a checkbox or DEI buzzword, but as a design principle — one that invites people of all ages, backgrounds, and learning styles into wonder, relevance, and transformation.

🌱 Why Inclusion Isn’t Optional — It’s Oxygen

When you truly include, you don’t just bring people in.
You design for them to thrive.

Inclusion means:

  • Learning isn't locked behind jargon or assumed knowledge.

  • No one’s age or stage excludes them from contribution.

  • The curious spark is the entry point — not the resume, not the test score, not the generation you were born into.

We’ve seen 9-year-olds ask questions that shift 50-year-olds.
We’ve seen grandparents build prototypes beside teenagers.
We’ve seen the awe in a room when everyone realizes:

“We are not here despite our differences — we are better because of them.”

🔁 The Magic of Shared Experience + Bespoke Journey

Here’s our not-so-secret design sauce:

1. Create a shared experience that matters.
We don’t dilute. We don’t dumb down.
We craft engaging, relevant provocations that spark curiosity across age and background — a Wonder Challenge, a design sprint, a sensory journey, a question that won’t let go.

2. Then, design the scaffolding that meets learners where they are.
We don’t group by age. We tune into energy, curiosity, lived experience, and how they want to explore.
That’s where the real magic lives.

Think:
👧🏽 The 10-year-old who builds a business model with her dad.
🧓 The retired engineer coaching teens through their tech prototype.
👩🏾‍🏫 The high school student and early childhood teacher in flow solving the same problem — through wildly different lenses.

💡 We Don’t Teach To People. We Learn With Them.

Most education silos learners by life stage.
We say: let’s silo by level of curiosity activated.

And guess what?
When we do that… the “problems” melt.
No one’s too young.
No one’s too old.
Everyone’s in the arena, exploring what matters to them, in a way that fits them.

That’s not just good pedagogy.
It’s good humanity.

🌀 Final Wonder Thought

Inclusion isn’t just about who is invited.
It’s about how they’re empowered to grow.

We design intergenerational experiences not because it’s easy — but because it’s right.
Because the world needs more spaces where 8-year-olds and 80-year-olds are learning side by side, building the future together.

Curiosity is the great equalizer.
And we’ll always build from there.
